What to do if you’ve been a victim of a crime

  • Report it to the police: If you feel safe to do so, report the crime to the police by calling 101 (non-emergency) or 999 (in an emergency). You can also visit your local police station.

  • Get emotional support: Being a victim of crime can be traumatic. Reach out to organisations like Victim Support or The Mix for help processing your feelings and navigating your next steps.

  • Seek legal advice: If you need guidance on your rights as a victim, Citizens Advice offers free, confidential legal advice. Home – Citizens Advice.

If you don’t feel ready to report the crime, that’s okay. You can still reach out to services like Victim Support or Childline to get help dealing with what happened and figuring out your options for the future.
